Why I Was Going To Hire An Interior Designer

Until the ol' world wide web and blogging, I never realized there were so many fabulous and talented people out there! I mean, of course there were, you just didn't know about them as easily!  But if  I spend a lot of time on any of these decorating types of blogs, while they're fun, they can also make me feel like I'm just not as cool!  No matter how hard I try, I can't pull a decorating miracle out of pure sawdust, glue, some sparkly paint and have it actually look amazing and still be smiling about it.  I am a crafty clutz!  Of course I'm exaggerating but let's face it, it's easy to feel like you just don't measure up.

It's not a weakness to admit that you need a little help sometimes.  That's why I am proudly going to admit that I almost hired an interior designer to help me finish and update the main floor of my house.

It doesn't mean that I can't decorate something by myself.

Because I can.  I've had a few projects turn out that I have absolutely loved!

It doesn't mean that I don't have any style, ideas or taste of my own.

Quite the contrary!  I'm loaded with ideas and opinions {in fact, maybe too many!}.

But I consider it a very mature thing to be able to admit when you need to seek advice from another.

Trust me, I know when to pull this car over and ask for directions!

Here are the top reasons I was going to hire an interior designer:

1.  To help me finish pulling my ideas/vision together
2.  To help me source products I don't have time to search for
3.  To know and help me get good prices on above sourced products
4.  To act as an intermediary at pulling together my ideas and my husbands ideas {sometimes things are just better coming from a 3rd party, if you know what I mean!}
5.  To present us ideas that we may not have thought of
6.  To help solve problems I haven't been able to figure out for myself {for instance balancing an off~balance wall}
7. Because I've always wanted to get inside the head of real designer and see them in action!

So why am I NOT going to hire an interior designer in the end?

Well, money for one thing, but mostly because I've decided to have a great friend help me out instead.  She can make anything beautiful!  She is super talented that way!  She is strong in the parts where I am weak.  Plus it will be a good excuse to hang out, make the house pretty, do a little shopping together and probably eat some Cafe Rio salads or something fun like that!

We're getting together tomorrow to start deciding what we're going to do, so stay tuned!  This is going to be fun!

  1. Great idea. I am a huge fan of tapping into our friends' talents.
    I think you did a fantastic job on your daughter's bedroom. My teen would be envious!

  2. I've hired two designers in the past to work with my current belongings. You pay them by the hour, and they will move pictures, furniture, rearrange accessories, etc. I learned alot from those two experiences, and now I can do it on my own. It may be a good birthday or Christmas present to give yourself...

  3. Thanks Adrienne! It was a fun project for us to work on.

    I like the idea of using it as a gift to myself, Rebekah. I may do that down the road. For now my friend is working her magic with some of the stuff I've already got. She's genius I tell you! I hope to have before/after's to post soon!
