The other day I mentioned I am on a
self-imposed spending freeze.
self-imposed spending freeze.
Why am I doing this?
It's not about lack of funds.
It's about:
Gratitude ~
Appreciation for the things I already have.
Appreciation for the things I already have.
and
It's about spending more mindfully.
Since changing out my wardrobe earlier this year {and ditching my mostly black wardrobe}, I realized that I was getting myself into a frequent spending and shopping habit. It has been fun finding new pieces for my new wardrobe but I have my core wardrobe now and I realized I was shopping just to shop! It's time to pull in the reins, break that habit, and finally fine tune and hone in on the pieces I still need to complete my wardrobe.
The only exceptions I have made are to use my Kohl's cash and DSW rewards this month. It's either use them or lose them and I'd rather use them! So now I just need to carefully decide what to get!
So I will use this month to create a plan for the items I still need and want. I will also use the time to refashion a few items in my wardrobe to work better within my new style. That should keep me busy and away from the stores for a while and hopefully will help me break the mindless shopping habit I was getting into!
I am on one of these too! We can cheer each other on....

Hi! You must read the book 'Living the Savvy Life' recommended by the lovely Adrienne. Her book is not about being frugal as you say, but about being savvy and mindful about what you buy. I think it will help you a lot (it certainly helped me). If you go to the authors ( Melissa Tosetti) website, she will send you a copy of the book free in exchange for a review on your blog. Read it over summer and start with a new mindset this Autumn ;-)
ReplyDeleteB' pop over to Adrienne's blog, she has just announced a special offer for the "Living the Savvy Life" book in collaboration with the author. Very timely me thinks!
ReplyDeleteIt is always good to look at a habit squarely in the eye and ask, "Why do I do this?" I used to be a recreational shopper, and I found that I always bought garbage instead of the luxury item I REALLY wanted to purchase.
ReplyDeleteSo I stopped cold turkey and made a shopping budget for the year. I've talked about this often -- the planned purchases database -- and now I shop guilt-free because it's intentional, not recreational.
It's really hard to break a habit, but taking it one day at a time leads you one day further away from a process you want to stop!
Thanks for the heads up Vanessa! I've been gone all day so I will hop on over there!
ReplyDeleteAdrienne ~ how timely! And so fun you get to be a part of this promotion!!!
Rebekah ~ your planned purchase database is truly an inspiration! I am actually really excited to sit down and objectively figure out what to get next. I used to never be a recreational shopper until very recently so I'm sure I will be able to kick this habit to the curb without too much difficulty {I hope!} :)
Thank you wonderful ladies!
Mwah!!!
