First up ~ a fairly basic look
with gold and pearl accents.
Then I decided to freshen it up a bit
with some blues and greens
{check out the cute flower pin at the waist!}:
Then adding in a bright pop of pink
just for fun!
And some light pink
for a softer feel:
And lastly, a more natural look with straw accessories
{I forgot to change the shoes to a cute wedge ~ oh well!}
I think I could have fun wearing any of these combinations!
But do you really want to look just like everyone else out there? I've been noticing lately that the women who catch my eye and stand out as being truly chic aren't usually the ones wearing black. I'm not saying black can't be chic. It can actually be quite stunning on the right woman. I don't know, it was just an interesting observation and offered some food for thought!
So, what do you think?
Are my black observations similar
to what you see in the workplace too?
Do you think the percentage would be
different in a larger setting?
and . . .
How would you accesorize the LBD?
{That would be the "little BROWN dress"!}
Let me know!
I love brown with turquoise and brown with light blue. Tres chic.
ReplyDeleteI am a black clothing proponent. It may be because I am so tall and prefer to fade into the landscape a bit. I am afraid of wearing too much color for fear of looking like big bird, or a giant bean stalk, etc. I stick to black, chocolate, and navy when it comes to most of my key pieces, then accessorize with color.
I like that you experiment with color - I'm sure you stand out amongst the crowd in a very good and stylish way.
Hmm. Height is a factor I hadn't ever really considered before. I didn't realize you were a tall gal! But I guess I should have realized from your modeling days you mentioned a while ago? I hardly doubt you would look like big bird! Girl, you could carry anything you put on! You are stunning!
ReplyDeleteBlack is a protective color. I can see reason, especially in today's work environment(and world) that people wear it quite frequently.
ReplyDeleteProtection. Ok that's an interesting thought. But what if you were wearing colors that really supported who you were that gave you more power in the workforce? Possible? I think so.
ReplyDeleteI wear black because it is one of my wardrobe staples, and I'm told I look good in black. Where I live in Texas, most people wear bright colors, so I actually stand out from the crowd in black!
ReplyDeleteI think chocolate is your new black. It is every bit as versatile and looks great in summer or winter. If you're skin tone allows, don't forget to mix green or yellow with your chocolate!
Ok, so that's an interesting point Rebekah. Maybe wearing black is more of a cultural/regional kind of thing around here in the workplace.
ReplyDeleteI applaud your decision {and Anne's and Adrienne's} to wear black because I'm sure you guys put deliberate thought into it. But I wonder how many other women just default to black without really thinking about it ~ it's just an easy color to find and wear and besides isn't every one supposed to own a LBD? {This time black, not the brown}. Or the three black skirts?
Hmm. I never used to think about black this much! LOL! :D
As I read this yesterday, I looked down at my business casual outfit, and realized I was wearing black. I am today too.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was on my mission, a lady once asked us why the elders and sisters always wore black. She thought it was a strange requirement, like Mormons weren't allowed to wear colorful clothes. But then she met one of our senior couple missionaries who always wore bright and fun outfits, and was reassured that it had nothing to do with religion. For me it was just ease of matching since we were essentially living out of suitcases.
Lol! That's funny! Gave me a good chuckle!
