Matching Christmas Decor

Sarah Richardsons Farmhouse via Canadian House & Home

Do you coordinate your holiday decor to match the room decor?  In the past I haven't because I love the traditional reds and greens at this time of year.  This would require taking down pictures and putting up items with those traditional colors.   But my house isn't normally decorated with reds per se.

Simplifying my life in all aspects is something I have been contemplating a lot over this past year.  I was trying to figure out how to decorate my main living area that could easily marry my holiday decor into my everyday decor without a huge fuss.  You know, fabrics that could bridge the two seamlessly or something.

Then a few weeks ago while dining out with the family I saw this tree:

It's not the greatest picture, but it was decorated with lime green and chocolate ornaments and ribbons, pinecones and white tucked in here and there.  I loved it!  Those are sooo- totally my colors!

Decorations in these colors would totally go with the rest of what I want to do in the main living area year round.  This means I would just be tucking in the holiday accents and not having to remove pictures and items to replace with other ones.  Much simpler!!!

So the day after Christmas I plan on hitting the clearance racks for things in my new colors.  The traditional colors I already have can go in the kids rooms, upstairs or into storage for my daughters house when she grows up and gets a place of her own {a trousseau of sorts!} because it would be a shame to just get rid of everything I have worked hard over the years to acquire.  Luckily the daughter likes the color red.

I can't tell you how relaxed this new plan makes me feel.  That's what simplifying should be about, right?
